The Margin + (live)

As mentioned in the review here of The Margin, this live recording comes recommended .. but there is more to it. The album was remastered in 2002, and a supplementary disc was added as bonus material.

The 10 songs on second disc are similar to the versions previously available as the (13 track) Secret Asteriod Jungle bootleg, although apparently remastered by Hammill. The recording quality of these ten songs are good. Where the sound is different from the first Margin disc, is that audience sound can be heard this time.

If there are any fans of Hammill’s music, especially of the K-Group era, then the supplementary material included, along with the improved sound quality on both discs, make this double live disc a must-have.

The Margin (live)

The Margin (1985), is the sound of the K group playing live with a very strong performance and setlist. The playing is strong, even aggressive, with the accent on electric guitars with some stunning guitar work by John Ellis. A highlight is Flight which appears in its entirety.

A curious thing about this live album - the audience noise was either filtered out or not recorded at all, giving this live recording an oddly displaced feel. The liner notes state : No applause and no overdubs - This is what happened on stage.

The Margin was recorded live in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London in December 1983, and comes strongly recommended.
