With The Love Songs (1984), Hammill re-recorded / remastered ten of his ballads. The songs seem to have been chosen based on what is more accessible to an outside audience.
Though ballads are a strong point in Hammill’s repertoire, and the selected songs make for a lovely album - the overall mood here is low-key to my ear, and much of what makes Hammill so distinctive, is lost. |
The Love Songs is nice enough collection of songs, yet there are other albums which are far more essential.
