Loops & Reels
|
Loops & Reels (1983) is subtitled as Analogue Experiments 1980 - 1983, and is a clue that the listener won’t find many structured songs on here. The album consists of 7 tracks, most of which meander along, with a variety of looped keyboard and guitar and percussion sounds appearing seemingly at random.
The only real song as such is the opening track, A Ritual Mask, which features some strong African percussion, and would have been a far more interesting avenue to explore than most of these experiments. |
The only other track which appealed was In Slow Time which is obviously an outtake from the Black Box sessions.
As much as the liner notes want to convince us of the merit of these soundscapes, this album will only really appeal to the completionists.
Fans expecting something more conventially Hammill, (if there is such a thing), should look at other albums rather.
