In A Foreign Town

In A Foreign Town (1988) is often filed away as one of Hammill’s least impressive solo albums. Similarly to Skin, this album suffers from a too-glossy production. For all his genius and studio skills and multi-instrumental capabilities, Hammill is usually stronger when working with other musicians.
Yet, the songwriting and lyrics on this album are stronger than on Skin, with some of the songs here justifiably becoming staples of his live shows. Time To Burn, The Play’s The Thing and Hemlock are standout tracks. |
